Pay Per Click Marketing - Does It Work For Industrial Companies?

Image representing Google as depicted in Crunc...
Image via CrunchBase
I discovered pay per click marketing in late 2001, launching my first campaign with Google Adwords. At the time, I was managing a search engine optimization (SEO) project for an industrial controls manufacturer and immediately recognized the potential of this new channel.
I opened a Google AdWords account, compiled a list of keywords, and developed a small group of text ads. Within five minutes of my campaign going live, the four lines of text that I had crafted into an advertisement were appearing on the right side of Google's search results. More importantly, targeted visitors began trickling into my client's website; the power of this marketing platform really struck a chord with me. I had achieved visibility on Google's highly coveted first page using the same keywords being optimized through my "natural search" project.
Let me distinguish between paid listings and natural search listings - I am not suggesting that they are equal in value, but rather competitive in value. Natural listings enjoy a higher perceived relevancy in the eyes of search users; however pay per click advertising, when managed properly, affords businesses immediate penetration into desirable search engine result pages (SERPS). Additionally, paid search marketing is much more flexible in its approach to targeting markets and budgeting for return on investment.
Search engine optimization is a valuable strategy that can deliver a strong return on investment when properly managed. Businesses can cultivate a web presence that organically ranks high in the search engine results pages, delivering requests for quote and product sales. By the same token, the effective implementation of SEO is a long term strategy, often requiring months of development and significant project costs before a return on investment is realized.
Pay Per Click marketing on the other hand is completely measurable, making it possible to monitor profitability on a real time basis. Furthermore, the pay per click model enables marketers to revise their advertisements, budgets, and target audience(s) on a real time basis. This flexibility, when properly harnessed, is the key to an industrial manufacturer's success in the world of Internet marketing.

In addition to your marketing Web site, your CVB or tourism bureau has the opportunity to be seen by more than 250 million people all over the world at any given time. This idea of increasing your Web traffic may seem complicated and time-consuming, but it is much easier than you may think.

According to Facebook's statistics, more than 120 million users log in each day, contributing to more than 5 billion minutes being spent each day worldwide on the site. Despite what you may think about Facebook being targeted for teens and young adults, the current fastest growing demographic is people ages 35 and older. Combine that with the Domestic Travel Market Report statistics that the average age of a domestic traveller is 46 (and that 75% of Americans travel for leisure) and you don't need another reason to join Facebook.

Other than the statistics, Facebook brings a lot to the table:

  • A plethora of media devices at your fingertips. Uploading video, pictures, slideshows and easy posting makes sharing multimedia easy.
  • The ability to generate discussions easily. Direct messaging capabilities, wall postings, group networking and creating fan pages give your CVB or tourism bureau a broad range of tourism and destination marketing tools at your fingertips.
  • High SEO capabilities. Facebook can be placed high on Google results, especially if you customize your Facebook address.
  • High reachability. You have the ability to not only keep up with your clients, but give potential clients a taste of what they are missing. You have the ability to search for people who are interested in travelling, as well as the individual assets your destination has to offer, and you reach out to them directly.
  • Networking. Become a fan of similar pages to gather a bigger following. In turn, they have the ability to link back to your site.

All of these capabilities for tourism advertising and destination branding are not just limited to your company's Web site. These services are available in addition to what you may already have in terms of Internet marketing.

Google Plus: Maximize Seo Marketing

Google Chrome
Google Chrome (Photo credit: thms.nl)
Google Plus is still in its early stages, but that does not mean it is a less effective tool for marketing. You just have to use it differently than all of your other social media marketing tools. Google+ has not yet reached its maturity, so you must implement a unique strategy in order to get the most from it.

In order to maximize the results from your Google+ marketing strategy, here are eight steps that will give your content the advantage in SEO. You will increase visibility of your posts, giving your social media marketing strategy the boost it needs.

1. Set all of your posts to Public. Having more circles can create a broader interest for your friends, but by telling Google that all of your posts can be shared publicly will allow them to be indexed in the public search engine. Every time you post, select the Public option.

2. Use a source link when adding your content to Google Plus. Google+ has not been playing well with URL shorteners, so when possible use a link directly from the source. This helps Google more efficiently populate the content, including the name of your blog, post title, description and image. The content will also be cross-referenced with any +1 "likes" from other Google+ users. Much like sharing URLs through other social media sites, you just copy and paste the original link to the "Share what's new" box on your homepage.

3. Add a "+" before a person's name in order to link to their profile in a post. Anyone that you are connected to on Google+ can be linked in the same way as on your Facebook network. A feature that some users are unaware of lets you do this by simply prefixing the name with a "+" as you write your post. This will highlight the name, letting readers view the individual's profile, if privacy settings allow it. Being able to link with others helps open conversations and engage users.

4. Be sure to broaden your circles, add friends, engage and share. Like Facebook, the more you engage others, the longer your posts will remain visible to other users. Increasing the number of people in your circles to share with will give your content more reach.

5. Spread the +1 button around all of your sites. The small piece of code is easy to embed on all of your web pages, blogs, e-commerce sites, etc. The easier it is for readers to click on your share buttons, the more likely it is that they will do so. Easy sharing helps extend the reach of your content through social media.

6. Fill out your profile as completely as you feel comfortable. Over time, your Google profile will create itself depending on choices that you make. By adding other touches to it, you will grow your profile and curate it so that it fits you perfectly. Take a look at your social media profile and decide what areas you feel need more information added. The more open you are on your public profiles, the better.

7. Consider clicking the "Email people not using Google Plus" for some of your best posts. If you are connected with people who are not on Google+ yet, you can still share your content with them by having an email sent directly to them. This is not an option you should choose for everything, as this can cause you to become an annoyance. Instead, only choose to do this when you have written a great piece of content that you want to send out there.

8. Take part in the Google+ community. Similar to Klout, how much you actively participate on Google+ can affect your relevance on the social media site. How many people you reach can help you be ranked higher.

Making the most of Google+ takes patience and commitment. When you do it right, the rewards you reap will be worth the effort you make. Are you using Google+ to extend your reach? What has worked best for you in social media marketing? Share with us!

How to Increase Blog Traffic via Blogger

How To Increase Blog Traffic
Many tactics used to generate blog traffic differ from many methods use for the same purposes on 'traditional' websites. Generally speaking blog posting is a frequent ritual performed to maintain freshly updated content on the site. As a result of this continual flow of new content most blogs can influence the amount of search engine traffic they receive.

Here are 3 simple ways to make your blog more search engine friendly thereby 'inviting' an increase in the flow of traffic to your site.

Post Regularly with Quality Content

It gets right down to whether the content on your blog is helpful or informative to the blog reader. If you can not maintain a consistent level of content that your readers feel is worth viewing they simply will not return. The same can be said for any new traffic that if they land on your site and it is not of interest to them they will not return.

By posting regularly you will increase the frequency of search engines 'crawling' your site to view the new content. With each visit search engines view your site as more important since the information is being updated constantly. This will result in higher rankings and more traffic to your blog.

Optimize Your Content

By selecting those keywords and phrases that are most relevant to your content you have a great start at optimizing it with these keywords. By taking your selected keywords you want to 'strategically' place them throughout the body of your post where the words fit in the best. Do not attempt to just stuff them into your content without careful consideration of where they are being placed. Your post will not make sense from a grammatical standpoint which will reflect upon you as a writer.

You do want to choose a primary keyword and place it in the title of your post.

By correctly choosing and placing your keywords you will be making your site more search engine friendly thereby making it easier for your content to be found and ranked. This in turn will result in higher rankings for you translating into more search engine traffic.

Page Linking

Your site will have multiple pages and it is best to make the effort to link these pages when you can. Page linking results when you place a link from one page on your site to another page that has similar or relevant content on it. What this does is it makes it easier for site visitors to find information on your site.

When you place internal links in this manner it also makes it easier for search engines to find all the relevant content your site offers. The net result here is that once again your ranking increases attracting more search engine traffic.

Blog traffic with a properly updated site can pretty much be moderated according to how the content is prepared and distributed. Maintaining a frequent blog posting schedule containing quality content can make your site more search engine friendly. In doing so you are now positioning yourself for an increase in highly targeted free search engine traffic. By implementing the 3 simple strategies we spoke of above you will experience more visitors to your site. The loyalty of these same visitors will be influenced by the level of quality content you continue to maintain on your blog.

Google Places: Local Business Listing

Image representing Google as depicted in Crunc...
Image via CrunchBase
Google Places, also known as Google Maps, is a web mapping service and technology introduced by Google Inc. Google offers a free business listing to small businesses at the top of most local search results pages. Local Google Advertising is what we're after when we talk about Google's local business listing center.

Anatomy of a Google search result page:

  • Listings on the right side bar are paid advertisements, often called "sponsored links"
  • The main body of a search result page are called the "organic" or "natural" search listings
  • At the very top in a colored text box are also paid advertisements, sponsored links
  • Above the organic listings are "Google Local Business Listings"

This wiki deals with only with the Local Business Listings

You will notice a map associated with each listing, this is because Google used the existing infrastructure of Google Maps to implement the free business listings. It's generally thought that Google offered this free service, and gave its location on a search result page prominence above the organic listings because of the popularity of Google's Adwords program.

Adwords is a PPC (pay per click) advertising system where keywords and keyword phrases are bid on in an auction like system. The immense popularity of Adwords priced smaller Mom n Pop stores out of the market due to the ever escalating costs of certain keywords. Google became fearful that it's search platform would be return search results of the "rich and famous" thus reflecting only what the rich and powerful wanted seen on Google search results.

How does Google determine which website should rank higher than another?

Google uses a computer program algorithm based on hundreds of factors as the vast size of the internet precludes any human capability of keeping the listings accurate or current. That algorithm is a closely guarded trade secret within Google. Search Engine Optimization Consultants learn what Google apparently likes and doesn't like from the observable behavior of search results.

Local Business Listings IS Google Maps

Google Maps algorithm is different from the algorithm that anoints one site over another. It's also slower to update. If your customers leave glowing reviews of your product or service on the link provided your site will climb in rank.

You are permitted up to 10 photos of your product or service, use as many of those slots as possible. Fill out as much information about your business as space allotted provides, being verbose is better than being succinct when it comes to Google Local Business Listings.

Many small businesses get leads and interested inquiries from a local business listing even if they don't have a website url. Still other small businesses find it unnecessary to have their company listed anywhere other than the top local business listings. If your listing falls in ranking or is bumped out of it's spot by a newcomer and you find your company losing sales because of it, you may want to outsource your rankings management to a local search engine optimization firm.

They can be regarded as the one of the way of doing ‘online marketing’ for building the brand credibility of any company.

Press release plays a significant role in search engine optimization field. They help in building a rising sales structure of an organization. Businesses of all type and size, like custom application development or other software product development business like development of software associated with warehousing management and so on, are now more focused on getting the visibility and online exposure worldwide.

They can be treated as the one of the way of making online publicity of product or a brand, which in turns, attracts more and more customers and help in building a good rapport. By making press release submissions, the visibility of keywords increases in search engine result pages (SERPs). Apart from this, there are few other benefits which make ‘Press Release’ a powerful tool.

Benefits of press release submission:

  1. As mentioned in the above statement, ‘Press releases’ helps in improving the sites appearance on SERPs. But, this can only be achieved by proper usage of keywords and embedded links in the body of a release.
  2. Keywords get ranked easily in different news domains like Google news, Yahoo news.
  3. It helps in increasing brand creditability by introducing the site and products to new users.
  4. Amount of rich and quality backlinks from other websites will also be increased by submitting a press release.
  5. Media coverage is gained by a press release submission. A submitted PR reaches to different newsrooms and media people.

These are some of the major benefits a submitted press release can give to an organization. But, to gain advantage of all these benefits, the most important part is ‘Writing of a press release’. Writing a press release is not an easy task. It is not a cup of tea for everyone. Many things need to be considered before proceeding up with the writing of a release.

There are five main elements of a press release. These are:

  1. Title: The title should not be more than 100 characters. Try to include targeted keyword in the title element.
  2. Summary: Ideal summary length of a press release should not be of more than 250 characters. 1-2 keyword phrases can be taken into summary of a press release.
  3. Body: This is the main part and should be written in third person. The body of a press release should be content worthy. It should have a unique content related to the news category. The length of the body element should be of approximately 300-350 characters.
  4. Company information: Here the company’s brief and highlighted information need to be specified along with a linking text. This should also be written in third person.
  5. Contact details: Contact details of a relevant person as designated by the company should be provided along with company’s complete address, phone number, website address and the contactable e-mail id. (Most preferable is the usage of the e-mail id associated with the domain of that particular company).

In short, we can say, a press release can only become effective if and only if these guidelines are followed by an organization. It will surely help in capturing the general interest of the targeted audience.
